A new edition of the Totalenergies Vitoria-Gasteiz Martín Fiz Marathon has arrived and, as in previous editions, I am still excited about an event that bears my name, as well as being held in the city where I was born, Vitoria-Gasteiz.
In my city and in my marathon I just hope you get your wishes, personal and sporting. See you running! See you at Totalenergies Vitoria-Gasteiz Martín Fiz Marathon!
Running a marathon is a possible challenge. Health to train, exercise, run for physical and mental strength and feel young. Running makes us strong. After more than 35 years running all over the world and, after being proclaimed World Marathon Champion in 1995, twenty-five years after that achievement, I continue with the same passion for running, which has made me the first athlete in the world to win the Six Majors (New York, Tokyo, Boston, Berlin, Chicago and London) and I have achieved it in the category for the over 50 years old. Running gives me life, I feel happy with what I do, I love to share strides with the more than three thousand athletes who I hope will join me on the starting grid. Relating my athletic adventures is an aging sensation, counterbalanced by the fact that every day I maintain the physical and mental vitality to keep on putting on my running shoes and going for a run.
Vitoria-Gasteiz is a town of good athletes and great runners. I would be very happy to see the city center full of marathon athletes, friends and tireless companions. The public cheering everyone equally as if it were an Olympic marathon and this year is Olympic year, Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Applause for the first and just as loud for the athletes who lagged behind. This year, TotalEnergies Vitoria-Gasteiz Martin Fiz Marathon, we return to the urban center of the city, a two-lap course designed by myself, flatter and more central where you will feel the encouragement of the public, suitable for anyone who is going to participate to get your best record.
Vitoria-Gasteiz is a binomial of Tourism and Sport and you will feel it in the comfort to move around, its gastronomy, cultural tourism and of course, running in a European Green Capital.
